TOEFL = Test of English as a Foreign Language

TOEFL is an exam used to measure English skills which is popular with Canadian and American universities.

The test measures listening, reading, speaking and writing ability on academic tasks. It takes about 4.5 hours to complete the test. Reading and listening each take 60–100 minutes, speaking takes 20 minutes, and writing takes 55 minutes.

The test is out of 120, which each skill worth 30 points. The average score for American university admission is 74.2 for undergraduate, and 82.6 for graduate studies.

The test can be taken on the internet (iBT) or on paper (PBT).  You can retake the test as many times as you wish.  The cost of the test is between US$150 to US$225, depending on your country.
