Celebrating Christmas

In English-speaking countries, this is a very special time of year.

From December 24 to New New Year’s Day, we celebrate the Christmas holiday. The word holiday means ‘holy day’ (from the old English word hāligdæg: hālig = holy + dæg = day).

Christmas Day (December 25) traditions in English-speaking countries include:

- a Christmas tree with lights and a star on top
- having Santa Claus visit with presents for children
- eating turkey and Christmas pudding
- spending time with family and friends

No matter where you live in the world or what your culture, Englishlink would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.
