 Lesson 1

Victor from China: I have some questions:

1. Manila folder - Manila is the capital city of the Philippines - why is a folder called 'manila'?

Answer: Good question...I had to research the answer! Manila paper is made from the leaves of the abaca plant. The abaca plant grows largely in the Philippines. Therefore the name Manila, the capital city of the country!

2. "See you around." I always say "see you", "see you later", "see you soon" - all based on time. But seldom say "see you around". Is it based on time or places?

Answer: They all mean the same thing. It is a casual way to say goodbye. "See you around" means I will see you 'somewhere' at another time. Very general.

3. "You too". What is the difference between "me too" and "you too"?

Answer: We use "me too" when we are agreeing with something.

For example:

A: I love chocolate.

B: Me too!

We use "you too" when we wish someone enjoy the same thing.

For example:

A: Have fun this weekend!

B: You too!

A: Good luck on the test.

B. You too!
