Example:

indistinguishable

Things that look so similar that you cannot be sure they are different.

Example:

Are you certain those refrigerators are different models? They are indistinguishable.

motionless

Not moving.

Example:

The movie was so interesting that I sat motionless for 1.5 hours.

ma’am

/mæm/ (n spoken only)

Used when speaking politely to a woman whose name you do not know.

Example:

A: “Good morning ma’am. How can I help you today?”
B: “Good morning. I’d like to pay my phone bill please.”

meticulous

Done with great detail and care.

Example:

Kathy is meticulous about cleaning the house. It is always spotless!

meager

/ˈmigər/ (adj)

Small amount of something.

Example:

When I was on a diet the amount of food I was eating was meager. I was always hungry.

modernize

/ˈmɑdərˌnaɪz/ (v)

To make something old-fashioned look more modern and ‘today’.

Example:

This kitchen looks very 1970s. We need to modernize it before we try to sell the house.

motto

/ˈmɑtəʊ/ (n)

A short statement that says the beliefs of a person or organization.

Example:

During President Obama’s election campaign, his motto was “Yes We Can”.

mourn

/mɔrn/ (v)

Feel sad because someone has died.

Example:

In some countries, a women mourns her dead husband by wearing black for the rest of her life.

munchies

/ˈmʌntʃiz/ (n informal)

To have the munchies = to feel hungry.

Example:

After James plays hockey, he always has the munchies.
