vicious circle

Vicious circle

A situation where one problem creates a new problem, and the new problem recreates the first problem.

Example:

Credit cards create a vicious circle. You use the card because you are in debt, but then you get in more debt because of the card.

Examples:

I yearn to be healthy – I have been sick for 3 weeks.

Many adults yearn to be children again.

Examples:

To allow someone or something to move ahead.

Examples:

You must yield to other cars when driving.

I yielded so the runner could go past.

Appearing young

Examples:

She looks very youthful for 50 years old!

Having a youthful attitude towards life is important.

Used for closing pants, jackets, and skirts. Usually made of metal.

Examples:

The zipper in my jeans is broken.

Zippers are easier than buttons.

zodiac

Zodiac

The 12 stations in space including the Moon and Sun.  Many people believe the day they are born connects to one of the stations and affects their lives.  ie. Aries, Taurus, Cancer (called star signs ).  Some people read about this everyday in their horoscope.

Examples:

What star sign in the zodiac are you?

He believed in the zodiac so strongly that he could not make decision without reading his horoscope.

A place where things are allowed or not allowed.

Examples:

In Ireland, all restaurants and pubs are no-smoking zones.

The border between North and South Korea has a demilitarized zone.
